In the edition of Le Monde 2, July 12th, 2008, JP Géné publishes a double page entitled " When the lobbies sweeten on the back of stevia ".
What is new in this document, is that on May 15th of this year, the scientific newspaper Food and Chemical Toxicology published a study establishing the harmlessness of the rebiana (substance launched by Cargill and Coke) in drinks and food. So, Cargill plans to launch by the end of the year its sweetener called Truvia who will be compound 97 % of Rebaudiosides A.
Pierre Kupferman in the edition of June 30th of La Tribune in an entitled article " Pepsi and Coke bet on a natural sweetener ", evoke the same appetite of Cargill and Coke for the launch of Truvia and the pressure put on the FDA so that this molecule is finally supposed as food. Pepsi is just near after as they plan to use a sweetener called Purevia, also based on stevia extracts.
No doubt that the success of such accreditation process is not more than an affair of few months... |
