STEVIA PLANTS
Climate
The climate of origin is naturally the most adapted, warm, wet and brightened up. Nevertheless, the stevia adapts itself to various types of climates because it is produced in numerous countries of the world which does not possess the climatic conditions of Paraguay.
The stevia can thus be an annual if the winters are difficult in your region or a multiannual if the wintry conditions are sweet (no frost, effective protection of your plantations).
In winter, use something to cover the ground to protect the foot of stevia of the frost if you cultivate it in full ground ; if you cultivate it in jar, bring in your jar at the house, in a brilliant place, near a window for example.
Do not release too fast your plantations next year, wait that frosts are over.
Season, need of light
The more there is of light, the longer days are and the more stevia will develop a dense foliage, of a brilliant green. You will also see appearing of numerous ramifications if you pinch the height of your plantation regularly. Your plantation will be there only more beautiful.
Note that below 12 hours of light a day, you will see appearing the first flowers, the sign when the autumn came and when the winter will not delay.

Adequate ground and manure
The ground used by La Maison du Stevia is a mixture of peat, stream compost and sand (not salted). Make sure that your plant benefits from a good drainage while maintaining a good humidity in the foot.
If you cultivate your stevia in a jar, remember to bring a fertilizing complement to it, at the same frequency that for the remainder of your plantations (in general once per week). You can also use a manure into granulated which once mixed with the ground has a longer lifespan.
Need for water
It is necessary to frequently sprinkle when the stevia is cultivated out of pot ; if your balcony or terrace is directed in the south, try to do a little shade to your seedlings at the hottest hours of the day (12h-16h) so that your stevia does not decline.
 Water stress
|
When the plantation of stevia is in full ground, the irrigation can be more spaced out, nevertheless, it is necessary to watch that the stevia does not suffer aridity because its capacity to recover from a water stress is very very limited. |
